Entertainment journalist and critic, Arnold Asamoah Baidoo has shared his view on the future of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) after the Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy ban and has stated that the ban on the two dancehall acts will affect the awards scheme negatively.
He made this statement whiles in an interview with Caleb Nii Boye on Showbiz Live on Live Fm on Sunday.
The two dancehall acts, Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy were banned indefinitely from the awards after the two engaged in a brawl on stage, where Stonebwoy later pulled a pistol on stage. Their actions got them arrested and arranged before court and were banned indefinitely from the awards scheme.
As monitored by Ghcelebinfo.online Arnold said only people who have less knowledge about the awards scheme over the years will say the two’s ban will not have an effect on the scheme.
He explained that the two, especially Stonebwoy have contributed massively to the scheme through fans voting and his absence will mean the scheme will lose money. “I’ll be surprised if anyone who has followed the industry all these years will say the ban will not affect the awards.
Clearly it will. Over the period, the dancehall category has been dominated by these two artistes for the past 7 or so years”, he said.
He further stated that the dancehall category for this year’s awards scheme is weak as compared to previous years.
