So day in day out Ghana keep recording positive cases of the deadly Coronavirus from homes and schools after it reopening. From reports a number of schools have recorded cases of covid- 19 and a new development have popped up.
Six more senior high schools (SHSs) and a Nursing training collage in the western region of Ghana have recorded positive cases of the Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) per report sighted.
This was made known and confirmed by the Western Regional Director of Health, Dr. Jacob Mahama in an interview with City News.
According to Dr. Jacob Mahama, a total of 56 COVID-19 cases were recorded from the 7 institutions.
The regional director noted that a number of 309 samples were picked from the seven institutions, which included the Asankragwa Nursing and Midwifery Training School, for testing.
As it stands 56 out of the 309 samples picked came out positive for COVID-19 adding that 139 others are currently pending testing.
According to him, The school with the largest positives is Nsei SHS which has 26 positives out of 78 samples taken there, followed by Shama SHS with 18 positive cases, Asankragwa Nursing and Midwifery Training School with 6 positive cases, Archbishop Porter Girls with 2 positives, Adiembra (2), St. John’s (1), and Ahantaman (1).
He also added that they picked the contacts and samples to the laboratory and they are yet to hear anything about disinfection of these schools.
On the overall samples awaiting testing in the region, Dr. Jacob Mahama told Citi News that the situation is disturbing as the region has 4,095 pending out of 14,000 total samples taken.
