Ghana’s retired boxer David Kotei, popularly known as D.K Poison is to receive $45,000 he borrowed to the state in the ’70s, the presidency has confirmed.
D.K. Poison loaned the cash to the state during the administration of military leader General Kutu Acheampong at a time the country was in dire need of money to save the economy.
President Nana Akufo-Addo has instructed the Finance Ministry to pay back the money to the former world boxing champion on compassionate grounds.
Following the letter issued, the Ministry of Finance is requested to take the necessary action to give effect to this directive,” the letter from the presidency said.
