Wife of slain Member of parliament for Mfanstseman constituency, ASP Ophelia Hayford will be the NPP’s Parliamentary candidate for the constituency.
Madam Ophelia who is an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) has resigned from the Ghana police service while the NPP has invoked section 13(4) of CI 127 to allow for a 10-day extension of the nomination period to allow the widow file her nomination forms with the Electoral commission.
This will not be the first time the party will opt to go with the widow of a member of parliament as in 2019, Hon. Lydia Seyram Alhassan was also chosen to replace her deceased husband late Hon. Emmanuel Kyeremateng Agyarko in the controversial Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency by-election.
The Mfantseman MP, late Hon. Ekow Kwansah Hayford was sadly murdered by suspected armed robbers when he was returning to his residence in Mankessim from a campaign tour in Dominase and surrounding communities.
