Earlier today, February 25, 2021, it was reported that two VIP Buses have crashed at Akyem Asafo a town in the Eastern Region of Ghana and took lives of 16 people leaving the rest in critical condition.
Ghanaians upon hearing the sad news have reacted to it massively and loud and controversial political activist, Kwame A Plus born Kwame Asare Obeng have reacted to it.
According to A Plus, it baffles him how leaders of our country act blind on sad incidences happening in Ghana. A Plus lamented that, in as much as Covid-19 is dangerous, VIP buses in Ghana are more dangerous that CIVOV-19 since it has talking lives of Ghanaians more than COVID-19.
He however hit on the fact that, people overseas are more wiser than our leaders as he gave a scenario of how a Boeing 777 operated by United Airlines had to make an emergency landing in Denver after one of its engines blew apart. According to A Plus, though no injuries or fatalities were recorded in the aforesaid incident, US plane manufacturer Boeing immediately recommended grounding all of the 777-model aircraft which have the same type of engine that suffered a failure. U.S. regulators also immediately announced extra inspections of all similar aircraft and Japan suspended their use while considering further action.
He also added that “on 29 October 2018, a Boeing 737 MAX operated by Lion Air crashed into the Java Sea killing all passengers on board. Some few months later, on 10 March 2019, another Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft operated by Ethiopian Airlines crashed near the town of Bishoftu. After the second crash which was similar to the first one, the Manufacturer and regulator ordered that all Boeing 737 Max aircraft around the world must be grounded until an investigation into what caused two brand new aircrafts to fall from the sky in five months are concluded. This is what countries that have leaders who care about the safety of their citizens do.”
But here in Ghana, our leaders who year after year sign social contracts with the VIP Buses have never ask them for power in exchange for safety and protection deems it necessary to investigate why VIP (Yutong) buses are most likely to be involved in fatal accidents between Apedwa Junction and Nkawkaw on the Accra-Kumasi highway.
